Come and enjoy learning a real HERITAGE skill and upcycle all your old T shirts, Fleeces or Shrunken Felted Jumpers into unique and colourful textile hangings and rugs. If you have never tried HOOKY RUGGING before you will be amazed and delighted with what you can achieve and how much fun you can have. This one-day workshop will equip you with all the skills and materials you need to get going on your own creative and colourful designs.

Make a strong, beautiful and usable rustic stick chair from green hazel wood using traditional tools and techniques. People who attended the last course will have the opportunity to make a companion for their first chair or to branch out and try something more complicated like an armchair or more rustic version to expand their skills. This course runs over two weekends 27/28 April and 18/19 May.

One of a series of very popular workshops with local artist Frances Winder. Starting by experimenting with markmaking explore a variety of ways of using the medium - ink brush work, washes, pen and ink, layered ink and resist. Try using sticks,granulating fluid and feathers to create effects.

NOTE CHANGE OF DATE. During this course we explore methods and techniques involved in Acrylic painting with reference to the rich and varied work of a number of different artists. Using experimental methods, we create small pieces to experiment with technique and then apply the knowledge to landscape expression.

Mark Bamford
Mark Bamford is a skilled green woodworker craftsman who has run courses for many years at the Middlewood Trust and always enjoy chair making. He is a trained design and technology teacher and an experienced adult tutor.
Pamela Bolton
Pamela Bolton uses a very simple ‘hooky’ approach to ‘rugging’, creating modern art by recycling brightly coloured cotton. An experienced teacher now living in Appleby, she enjoys teaching and making colourful, fun textiles used in a variety of ways.
Frances Winder
Frances Winder is a much admired local artist who works in a variety of mixed media. She is an experienced and patient teacher who enjoys passing her skills on to others. You can see some of Frances' work on her website www.franceswinder.com
