Intro to General Navigation
Tutor: Tim Deighton
This 3 week course is for people who wish to learn to navigate effectively on both low and high ground, focussing on learning to relate the map to the actual topography, and using various navigational techniques to find your way. The course will be practical and will be based in the fells and dales around the beautiful village of Dent.

Feel Confident on the Fells

This course is for people who would like to walk on the high fells but who do not yet feel confident to do so. You will learn about different types of terrain, weather, route planning, equipment and navigation The starts with a discussion over a mug of tea, followed by a full day on the fells, and debriefing over more tea (or a beer!).

Mountain Adventure

This exciting course is for people who wish to learn to plan their own adventures in the hills. An initial planning day is followed by a full weekend of adventure. The group will decide upon the objective (which might be a Scottish bothy trip, or an extended trip in the Lakes), do all the planning, then take part in the trip. You will have a great time, probably feel challenged, and find out more about yourself.

Rock Climbing Intro

Climbing is one of the most rapidly growing sports in the UK. Climbing walls provide an excellent introduction to climbing and give people a safe and friendly environment in which learn. This course will introduce you to the skills you need for climbing on indoor walls, and give you the confidence to get out and climb.

Basic GPS Navigation

A GPS device is a really useful tool for outdoor navigation on the mountains, tracks and trails. This short course will help you to get the best from your GPS and teach you how to use it in conjunction with the traditional map and compass.

As well as being a well known teacher of IT courses Chris Wood is also a keen outdoorsman who has been walking and climbing in the hills for nearly 40 years. He is currently working his way through the Scottish Munros so has had to sharpen his navigation skills!
